Stranger Things producers Matt and Ross Duffer have sued for allegedly ripping off the idea of a short movie to produce their hit Netflix show.

Charlie Kessler claims that the show is based on his Montauk letter and a feature movie script titled The Montauk Project.

Both the letter and script revolve around a government facility and the paranormal happenings taking place in its surrounding regions.

Kessler said he pitched the concept of the movie to Matt and Ross Duffer, also known as The Duffer Brothers, when he had themed at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2014, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He said the talks were not able to materialize, however, the Duffer brothers utilized the idea and turned it into Stranger Matters, which debuted on the Netflix streaming website in 2016.

By June, when Netflix had given a green light to the job back in April 2015, it was called Montauk. To be set in Long Island, but the series changed its setting to Indiana.

The short movie, which was accessible on Vimeo but has since been taken down, shares many similarities with the Stranger Things, as well as with a mysterious conspiracy at a nearby military base .

Kessler is demanding both monetary reimbursement and a trial by jury. Neither The Duffer Brothers nor the streaming giant has responded to lawsuit as of yet.
